MG Motor marked a significant move in EV venture with a unique EV ownership initiative. During the launch of its first ever CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) is definitely one of the most innovative ownership package brought to the Indian market. Just to break it down, Baas (Battery as a Service) is an easy EMI payment option where customers pay EMIs for the battery as rental along with the car unit. What Exactly Is Baas? How Will This Concept Boost EV Adaption?
Battery-as-a-service was tries to address one of the major hurdles to EV adaption, i.e., the high upfront cost. With this package customers will be able to pay the price of the battery separately from the body shell. It essentially is a new EV ownership program where one pays for the body shell and gets to use the battery of the car based on kilometres driven.
If a customers opts for BaaS then he will pay two EMIs, one for the body shell and the other for the battery. The cost would depend on the plan opted by the customer.
BaaS is a new-age financing option bringing significant benefits for customers primarily by cutting down on the higher costs associated with EV purchase . This package reduces the starting price of the car. And its not just the Windsor EV, the BaaS services can be availed for other MG electric four wheelers.
For instance, Comet EV starting at INR 4.99 lakhs + Battery Rental @ ₹2.5/km*, the Windsor EV at INR INR 9.99 Lakhs + battery rental @₹3.5/Km* and the MG ZS EV is offered at just INR 13.99 Lakh + battery rental @₹4.5/km*. Additionally, this package helps with extra savings for the customer as he pays basis kilometre driven / battery usage.
Similar Ownership Package In Pipeline For ICE Models?
“Innovation is a very important pillar at JSW MG Motor India and we consider it as an integral part of our DNA. The current vehicles in our ICE portfolio are known for many disruptions in their respective segments. It is against our company policy to comment on future plans, but we want to ensure that our pursuit to deliver innovative solutions to mobility needs will be consistent.”
Well, it seems we will have to wait for a while to see any future developments on the same.
Does This Package Comes With Any Time Limit or KM Coverage Restrictions?
There are different plans from different finance partners being offered on MG electric four wheelers. Body shell and the battery can be funded for different tenures. Customers can get the car unit’s funding for 3 to 5 years and battery for up to 8 years or 1.5 Lac Kms.
Who Becomes The Owner If Customer Opts For BaaS Package?
The vehicle will be registered in the name of the customer purchasing the program through an affiliated finance partner. These will be privately registered vehicles just like normal private vehicles on road.
What If Customer Fails To Pay Defaults Monthly Installments?
“As with any financing arrangement, understanding the implications of non-payment is crucial. If a customer ceases to pay the battery rental fees, the financial institution, like routine procedure will give multiple reminders to customers to pay off the due.”
However, if the customer still fails to make the payment, the financier retains the right to repossess the vehicle. The customer will receive the money back for the amount that was paid outright for the body shell. The price adjustments will be made depending the condition and usage. The default amount will deducted from the total sum and the remainder amount will be returned to the customer.
TRAI’s traceability rule, effective December 11, 2024
Messages with undefined routes will be rejected
The rule aims to reduce spam and cybercrime
A new traceability rule has been issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in an attempt to address the growing issue of online fraud and cybercrimes. The rule is set to come into effect on December 11, 2024. From the sender to the recipient, it aims to trace the path of commercial telemarketing messages, particularly OTPs. This will make it easier to spot and put an end to fraudulent activity.
Telecom providers will be able to follow the path of every commercial message from sender to recipient. This contains communications that are frequently used in cybercrimes, such as OTPs. Authorities are able to detect fraudulent senders by following the flow of the message.
Extended Deadline
The traceability rule was initially scheduled to go into effect on November 1, 2024. However, telecom companies including Vodafone-Idea, Jio, and Airtel asked for an extension. After that, the deadline was rescheduled for November 30 and has since been extended until December 11, 2024.
Rejection Of Unidentified Messages
Any commercial messages, including OTPs, that do not follow the pre-approved route or have an unclear sender’s chain will be refused as of December 11, 2024. This implies that the recipient will not receive any telemarketing or OTP messages delivered through unapproved channels.
Tracking Fake OTP Messages
One of the biggest benefits of this rule is the ability to trace fake OTP messages. If you ever fall victim to a fraudulent OTP, telecom companies will be able to identify where the message came from. This feature will help stop cybercriminals from exploiting this method for illegal activities.
Stopping Spam, Fraud
This traceability rule will also help in reducing spam messages and unwanted calls. By tracking where the messages come from and ensuring they follow a legitimate path, the rule will make it much harder for spammers and fraudsters to reach users.
By tracking the path of messages, telecom companies will be able to easily identify suspicious or fraudulent activity, leading to increased security for mobile users.
With the growing number of spam calls and fake messages, the new traceability rule comes as a huge relief to millions of users. It will make sure that they are protected from unwanted messages, especially those that might try to steal sensitive information.

Honda Activa e Electric Scooter Deliveires Postponed: What Happened?
Honda Activa e electric scooter which previously was set to be delivered starting February 2025 is now arriving slightly late at the dealerships. The reason is its swappable battery platform for which this e-scooter will be relying on a solid swapping station network for uninterrupted operations.
Just for reference, the Activa electric doesn’t come with charging option and solely relies on battery swap system. Hence, charging this electric scooter isn’t an option either at homes or charging stations. This means the Activa e’s availability also depends on the battery swapping stations in a city.
Instead of February 2025, Honda is now expected to commence Activa e electric scooter’s availability from April 2025. The company is expected to complete the first phase of battery swap station installation across the tier 1 cities. Up to 500 battery-swapping stations are said to be installed across major Indian cities including Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. That said, it’s likely the initial challenges which the brand has to go through to setup its EV venture which shouldn’t run for long.

However, the exact name of the models have not been revealed.
Oben Electric will be bringing the e-motorcycle for both affordable and premium consumers. Both the entry level and the flagship model will be introduced on the aforementioned timeline. Furthermore, Oben Electric’s upcoming electric motorcycles will be competing against the ICE motorcycles equivalent 100CC and 150CC.
Commenting on the same, the CEO said, “The consumer is shifting from ICE, and we need to give them something better than what they are riding now,” Agrawal emphasized. The upcoming lineup aims to cater to all major ICE segments, ensuring affordability and innovation for the masses.”
Just to recap, Oben Electric recently introduced the Rozz EX e-motorcycle model which the brand claims is a take on 125CC ICE motorcycle. The same strategy is likely to be followed going forward as well since the target audience is higher for the 100- 150 CC motorcycles in India.
Besides expanding its e-motorcycle fleet, Oben Electric is also aiming at expanding its dealership and service network across the Indian market. Currently, the brand has 11 operational dealerships in different Indian cities. However, the brand is further targeting to add around 50 more outlets to its portfolio by the FY2025.

Besides the name of the cities and the timeline, HMSI has also announced the number of battery stations it plans to bring to these cities. Bengaluru gets the maximum number of the battery swapping stations for Activa e at 250 followed by Delhi and Mumbai where the count will be 150 and 100 respectively.
