After investing in Reliance Jio, Google is all set to invest $1 million, which is close to Rs. 7,500 crores into Airtel. This investment will be part of the Google for India Digitisation Fund that was launched in 2020. Google is investing in the telecom operator in exchange for 1.28 percent ownership and $300 million will be part of the potential for the agreement between both players.

“As a part of its first commercial agreement, Airtel and Google will work together to build on Airtel’s extensive offerings that cover a range of Android-enabled devices to consumers via innovative affordability programs,” said Bharti Airtel in a release.

It is worth noting that Reliance Jio joined hands with Google to bring 4G and 5G devices at affordable prices. However, it is expected that Airtel and Google phones might come as a blow to the JioPhone Next.

Airtel has not announced anything on the ways Google will support them to reach deeper into the market, but still, there are chances that India’s second-largest telecom operator Airtel might go against Reliance Jio.

“Airtel and Google share the vision to grow India’s digital dividend through innovative products. With our future-ready network, digital platforms, last-mile distribution, and payments ecosystem, we look forward to working closely with Google to increase the depth and breadth of India’s digital ecosystem,” Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Airtel said.

The partnership will enable India’s second-largest telecom operator to grow and shape its cloud ecosystem in the country. For the unaware, the telecom operator is providing its services to one million small and medium businesses along with enterprise connectivity offerings.

“Our commercial and equity investment in Airtel is a continuation of our Google for India Digitization Fund’s efforts to increase access to smartphones, enhance connectivity to support new business models, and help companies on their digital transformation journey,” Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet said.

Even though private players have revised prepaid plans, BSNL is the only telecom operator that offers the most affordable packs and vouchers to its customers. In fact, the state-run telecom operator has brought packs under Rs. 50, which are providing unlimited calling and data benefits under the same price range.

The telecom operator is providing two prepaid plans under Rs. 50, where users will get 2GB of data. These prepaid plans are priced at Rs. 18 and Rs. 29. However, these prepaid packs come with a very short period of validity.

BSNL Rs. 18: Prepaid Plan

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited plan of Rs. 18. This plan is providing 1GB of data per day, unlimited calling, and video calls for 2 days, which means people will get 1GB of data for Rs. 9. In total users will get 2GB of data for the entire period. In addition, the fair usage policy will be reduced to 80 Kbps.

BSNL Rs. 29: Prepaid Plan

The state-run telecom operator also offers a plan of Rs. 29. This pack ships benefit for five days, where users will not get data on a daily basis. Also, users get 1GB of data and unlimited voice calling benefits for the same period.

This pack is specially designed to active your SIM. It is important to note that these packs are under Rs. 50. On top of that, these packs are not providing message benefits under the same price range.

BSNL Plans Under Rs. 20

Apart from these plans, the telecom operator has launched three vouchers under Rs. 20. These plan vouchers will cost you Rs. 13, Rs. 16, and Rs. 19. The first pack of Rs. 13 offers 2GB of data that allows you to consume data and videos for 24 hours.

The Rs. 16 plan offers 2GB of data for one day in all circles. Then, there is a plan of Rs. 19, where users will get 2GB of high-speed 3G data for one day. It is important to note that none of these vouchers is providing calling and SMS benefits to their customers. This means this pack is only designed to offer data benefits.

TRAI has announced that all telecom companies should have at least one plan voucher, one combo voucher, and a special tariff voucher for 30 days.

“Every Telecom Service Provider will offer at least one plan voucher, one special tariff voucher, and one combo voucher having validity of thirty days,” TRAI said in a statement.

The telecom regulator clarifies that Reliance Jio, Vodafone-Idea, Airtel, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited should have one plan that will be renewable on the same date as the actual date. The regulator also said that it has received complaints from consumers regarding 28 days validity plan as all want to have plans with 30 days or a month.
