The total Lunar eclipse also known as the Chandra grahan in India is one of those rare astronomical events where the earth directly moves in between the Sun and Moon.. When all three of them are aligned in a lone, a deep red hue shadow gets casted over the lunar surface. This celestial phenomenon is also referred to as Blood Moon. This year, the total Lunar Eclipse or the Chandra grahan coincides with Holi making this event more auspicious for hindus.
Speaking of the timings, the total lunar eclipse this year will begin on March 14 at 11.57 AM in India. It’s peak will be around 12.29 PM with the Blood Moon eclipse ending at 01.01 PM. Y
Why The Deep Red Hue During Blood Moon Total Lunar Eclipse?
ou can watch the moon turn red entirely during the lunar eclipse. What causes moon to turn deep red is the Rayleigh scattering process that happens when the Earth restricts the sunlight from lighting up the moon. When the atmosphere filters and bends the light rays while allowing only the red and orange wavelength to pass through and reach the Lunar surface. Hence, the term Blood Moon.
