MG Motor India Caps Windsor EV Free Charging Offer: Impact On Buyers

Key Highlights

  • Windsor EV free charging offer revised
  • New cap set for free charging
  • Windsor EV was the first MG electric car to launch with BaaS package

JSW MG Motor India surprised the Indian automotive industry with first of its kind BaaS (Battery as a Service) package introduced with the Windsor EV. In fact, the first CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) from MG Motor India also came along with an attractive free charging offer that grabbed huge interests from the domestic consumers. But in a shocking move, MG has announced a revision to the Windsor EV’s free charging offer. A new limit is being set on the free charging even for the early bird customers who were eligible for this offer.

MG Motor India Revises Free Charging Limit On Windsor EV

At the Windsor EV launch last year, MG Motor India announced the most exciting offer for the buyers — free 1 year charging at official MG charging stations. As a part of the offer, Windsor EV buyers could charge their vehicle at any authorized MG EV charging starting for free. This offer was applicable for the early bird customers taking a delivery before 31 December 2024.

In a shocking move, the company has now revised this free 1 year charging offer on the Windsor EV. Even the early bird customers eligible for this offer gets impacted by the new restrictions. But why exactly MG Motor India planned to revise the offer? Unfortunately, no official statement on the same has been released.

That said, instead of the full 1 year of free charging, MG Windsor EV owners will only be able to recharge their vehicles to 1000 units or 1,000 kWh for free. This cap of 1,000 units/ 1,000 kWh will be valid for a year. So, if you are one of those WIndsor EV buyers who have made the purchase last year and have already consumed 1,000 units of charging, you won’t get any additional free charging from now on.

Impact On Users

If we do the calculations, the Windsor EV real life range stands between 250- 270 km. This translates to somewhere around 6.5 km range per unit. And for 1,000 units, this EV will make a run of up to 6,500 km. Since this EV is being pitched as a daily as well long distance commuter, the average free charging covering 6,500 km a year is pretty less. As enticing the offer sounded when announced, it certainly seems a bummer for buyers who finalized the purchase based on it.
