Kia EV6 Recalled: What Is The Issue?

Kia Motors has recalled 1,138 EV 6 models in India. As per the online reports, Kia has apparently discovered issues with the charging system of the EV 6. Upon finding out the potential defect with the charging module of the premium e-SUV Kia summoned the units back for inspection.

It is further being suggested that the issue effecting the charging unit of the Kia EV 6 could be with the Integrated Charging Control unit or the ICCU. Notably, this is the module that enables the charging system of the EV while refueling.

With the defect, this ICCU of the EV6 is said to stop the 12V auxiliary battery charging which eventually will lead to the entire charging setup’s failure. If this happens, the EV6 would eventually make an abrupt halt due to loss of battery charger and power which could be concerning if you are on a long road trip. It is worth mentioning that Kia is currently importing the EV6 via the CBU (completely built-up unit) route which is why all the affected units are being voluntarily recalled.

What Does Kia Say?

Kia Motors have acknowledged the issue itself and announced the re-collection for the EV6 in India due to the fault charging system. The brand in a statement said, “prompted by a potential error in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which may affect the performance of 12-volt Auxiliary battery.” The company further notes that the MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) have been updated with the ongoing issue.
