The crystalline design on the back of Realme 5 Pro makes it look more premium than its price tag. It is a unique design, but the company could have done something cooler with the colour scheme as currently, every other phone has a blue colour pattern.
The phone is made of polycarbonate, so it is prone to scratches. To protect your device, you would have to use a cover that defeats the purpose of putting this much effort into design. Apart from the looks, the phone does not feel premium because of its plastic body and will attract smudges.
Speaking about the design, the screen has a teardrop notch with thin bezels, which gives the display a good look. The back of the phone has a quad-camera setup all placed horizontally with a flash next to it. The phone also has a fingerprint sensor which, in our opinion, is placed a little higher, which makes it rather uncomfortable to reach.
The volume rockers and the power button are placed on the opposite side of the phone. The sim tray has a dedicated slot for microSD, meaning the phone has expandable storage, which is always a welcoming feature. You will find a 3.5mm audio jack with a mono speaker and Type-C charging port on the bottom.
Talking about the phone's display, the Realme 5 Pro screen has a pretty basic 6.3 inch IPS LCD panel screen. The teardrop notch on the screen is referred to as "minidrop" and is smaller than the previous generation.
The screen is quite colour accurate but does not have the true blacks of the OLED displays. The colours and contrasts of the screen are pretty decent but do not compare to an AMOLED panel.
In the initial testings, we used the phone outdoors, suggesting the maximum brightness to be adequate for visibility.
Coming to the Realme 5 Pro specifications, it is par standards. The device is fitted with a Snapdragon 712 AIE chipset which brings higher efficiency and excellent processing power. As compared to other phones in this price range, the Realme 5 Pro surpasses them in terms of performance.
The device has an 8GB ram, which can easily handle all the day-to-day tasks such as social media, calling, texting, multi-tasking, etc. During game testing, the phone seems to run heavy graphics games such as Call Of Duty without any lags or frame drops.
Like any other phone, Realme 5 Pro also runs on ColorOS, which brings a lot of functionality and customisation. The overall feel of the OS directly depends on the user-preference.
Realme 5 Pro camera phone is the first phone in this price segment to have a quad camera setup. The phone's primary sensor is a 48MP sensor with a 2MP macro lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP portrait lens. The so-called portrait lens is a depth sensor that provides additional detailing to the picture.
The primary sensor performed well in our initial testing and had minimal shutter lag. The sensor's dynamic range was also pretty decent and was able to produce acceptable results in low-light. It also has an EIS for more stable shots, which is always a welcome feature.
The ultra-wide lens performed exceptionally well and retained the natural colours of the image while capturing more details. However, it did struggle in low light shots and produced shaky and grainy results. The macro lens has a fixed focal length of 4cm and requires you to adjust the sharp focus distance. It does the work but does not have any wow factor.
The depth sensor or portrait sensor helps to detect the difference between the subject and the background. It does its job of adding a little depth to the selfies and portrait shots.
Realme 5 Pro battery is a powerful 4035 mAh battery that offers a good battery life when combined with the colorOS. The VOOC 3 Flash Charge can charge the phone from 0 to 50% in just 30 minutes.
Realme 5 pro battery life can give you 6-7 hours of screen-on-time and easily last the day with light usage. Also, it can handle light gaming very efficiently and does not affect the battery life significantly.
