The Realme 8i comes with a massive 6.59 inch IPS LCD screen which is very large compared to its competitors. The IPS LCD comes with a 120 Hz display that is the charm on this phone. The screen boasts an FHD+ display but does not have an HDR 10+ rating like a few competitors in the market. The punch hole display has thin bezels at the side that provide a large viewing area for users. The screen does come with a Widevine L1 support for HD content on OTT platforms in an attempt to fill in the absence of HDR 10+ display. The screen has 600 nits of brightness which might be dim on a sunny day outside. The best thing is the processor can intelligently variate between 48 Hz to 120 Hz to provide longer battery life. Touch latency on the Realme 8i is very impressive and it offers a 180 Hz touch sampling rate.
The Realme 8i comes with a huge battery of 5000 mAh and has a few tricks that keep its power usage moderate and allows it to last a long time. The Realme 8i has a very intelligent processor in Helio G96 which automatically variates the refresh rate to preserve battery life. Even with the display locked at 120 Hz, the Realme 8i has enough in its tank to last the entire day. The LCD screen also helps in keeping the power usage in check as it consumes less power than the AMOLED display. The Realme 8i can easily run through the entire day with casual usage. The Realme 8i comes with an 18W fast charger that can easily bring the phone back to track quickly. The battery size is very competitive and at this price range, the 5000 mAh can run through much more than it should.
The Realme 8i comes with the standard triple AI camera setup. The main snapper is a 50 MP lens that does a very good job of capturing details and colours during various weather conditions but suffers from oversaturation issues. The 50 MP lens also has an ultra-wide sensor integrated into it. In normal conditions, the ISP is a bit overwhelming in its reproduction of colours giving out slightly oversaturated and high contrast images that really miss a few details. The 50 MP sensor has poor low light performance and misses a lot of details but makes up for it using the Night mode. The 50 MP sensor is paired up with a 2 MP Macro sensor that takes a lot of time to focus on the object and a 2 MP portrait sensor with autofocus. The front snapper is a 16 MP standard issue lens nestled in the punch-hole display at the front and does an excellent job while clicking selfies and portrait clicks. The pictures are a bit beautified but not too overwhelming and the bokeh mode offers a great cutout.
The Realme 8i comes with a polycarbonate build and offers a glossy gradient-like finish at the back. The glossy finish really brings the bling to the phone and in the two colour variants offered, the Realme 8i will stand out from afar. The Realme 8i is slightly on the heavier side and weighs in at 194 g. The screen is so ginormous that it requires using it with two hands at all times. The glossy back can easily get smudged so keep a piece of a microfiber cloth with you always. The phone is a bit heavy but not top-heavy and has a triple camera setup housing that does not bulge out at the back. There is a power button cum fingerprint sensor on the right, along with bottom-firing speakers and a USB C type jack at the bottom.
The Helio G96
is designed to handle the most intensive of tasks with ease.
