The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has announced revised charges for traffic offences. Be it drunken driving to overloading, over speeding, and juvenile offences, violators will face extreme punishments and fines starting this month. New Traffic Violation Penalty Charges And Punishments

In effect starting March 1, 2025, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India have revised the traffic violations penalties. This move comes due to the surging traffic violation cases and accidents in the country. We even have witnessed several deadly accidents involving minors claiming lives of innocent citizens. And since there have been multiple such extreme cases of hit and run in recent times which has lead the government to re-consider all penalties and punishments.

Revised Traffic Fines Charges And Punishments In India

Drunk Drive Fines And Punishments:

First Penalty: Rs 10,000 fine and/or 6 months in prison

Second penalty: Rs. 15,000 fine or a jail term of 2 years

Driving Without Seatbelt:

Penalty: Rs. 1,000

Driving Without Valid Licence:

New Penalty: Rs 5,000

Not Making Way For Ambulance Or Emergency Vehicles:

New Penalty: Rs 10,000

Overloading Fines:

New Penalty: Rs. 20,000

Driving Without A Valid Insurance 

First Penalty: Rs 2,000 and/or 3-months in prison

Second Penalty: Rs 4,000 in case of repeat violations
