On 25th March, 2021, the world of mid-budget smartphones saw the unveiling of a new SoC (System on Chip). Qualcomm started this year with a new processor in its 7-series named the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G.

Let us dive in and see what are the new boundaries that Qualcomm challenges with this innovation of its.

Architecture

The Snapdragon 780G is built on a 5nm platform and it’s the first 7-series processor to use that architecture. The latest architecture also makes 780G the most advanced processor from Qualcomm’s side after their flagship 8-series. The mid-range smartphone section is the area of interest for the 780G and will soon be available in phones from the 2nd quarter in 2021.

Built on the same platform as the top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, the latest Snapdragon 780G is an octa-core processor with two high-performance A78 Cortex cores with top speeds of 2.4 GHz and six A55 Cortex cores with top speeds of 1.8 GHz for less intensive tasks. Also, the SoC will likely be constructed by Samsung Foundry.

The 5nm platform is not the only first-time addition to the 780G which also boasts a triple Image Sensing Processor. The Snapdragon 780G promises you phenomenal photo quality with its Qualcomm Spectra 570 triple ISP (Image Sensor Processor). In layman’s terms, the 780G will be able to click photos with three lenses simultaneously, imagine clicking a photo with the zoom, wide and ultra-wide lenses at the same. Thus, 780G will give you crisp clear photos along with HDR 10+ and 4K video capabilities, improved low-light photography, and more…

AI & Gaming

The enhancement of the moments you capture, noise-suppression, and intelligent decisions will all be handled by the 6th Generation Qualcomm AI Engine and the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor for AI operations can deliver up to 12 Terra operations per second (TOPs) so you are not going to have any less-than-perfect decisions made for you. A hidden secret, this Hexagon 770 works twice as fast as its predecessor.

Gaming, the only industry that will be super hyped with the 780G so much that they may feel they aren’t in the real world anymore. The Snapdragon 780G comes equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features that will help you achieve your gaming ambitions. The SoC comes with an Adreno 642 GPU and updateable graphic drives. The Snapdragon 780G envisions bringing all the top AAA games to the fans with ultra-smooth gaming and true 10-bit HDR gaming. Equipped with a plethora of features this SoC brings desktop-level capabilities right to your fingertips.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity and audio, the 780G is not behind any competitor. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G borrows the recently debuted Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound Technology and an optimized Snapdragon X53 5g Modern-RF System from the 888. This adds another unique feature in the 7-series. The peak download speeds are up to 3.3 Gbps on sub-6 GHz frequencies. This means that the system brings you the premium Wifi 6 and Bluetooth audio. These are features you would find on a high-end Snapdragon 888.

Also, in the legion of connectivity for the 780G is the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Connectivity System that allows unmatched multi-gigabyte class Wifi 6 speeds up to 3.6 Gbps, super-low latency, and robust capacity. Add to this the 780G’s Wifi 6E technology that allows it to upgrade these advanced features to the powerful 6 GHz spectrum that is slowly gaining a foothold in today’s world.

All in all, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G brings you the most premium of features to the mid-range phone market. This SoC will make its mark once it hits the market with its wide array of supreme features.
