[GizNext Exclusive]: Thomson To Invest Over Rs. 300 Crores In New Factories; Product Export Strategies Underway

It seems that the craze of a large screen at home is increasing in India as smart television market reported 65 percent year-on-year growth in the June quarter. Thomson TV, a Super Plastronic brand, has also posted good growth over the past few years and specifically during the recent Flipkart Big Billion Days Sale in India.

Meanwhile, we managed to do an exclusive interaction with Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL), CEO Avneet Singh Marwah regarding the company’s investment plans, upcoming products, and market share.

Shedding light on the performance of the company in 2021, he said, there has been tremendous growth in the 65-inch and 55-inch screen sizes. Besides, 43-inch in 4K segment is the highest-selling category in smart televisions. Earlier, it used to be 32-inch and 42-inch screen sizes.

Thomson Investment Plans

In addition, the company is planning to open two more factories in the next two years, where one unit is said to be established in Hapur, while the other’s location will be announced in the Q1 of the next year. “The company has already made Rs. 200 crores investment in the factories and now, plans to invest more than Rs. 300 crores in the next two to three years,” Marwah said.

Going by the same, he exclusively informed GizNext that the Hapur factory will be operational by the end of the first quarter. In addition, he reveals that the company is planning to hire 5,000 skilled labour in three years for both factories.

Thomson Expansion Plans

Apart from investing in two upcoming factories, the smart television maker is working on different projects and investing heavily in the research and development.”We will start exporting our products by 2022 and we are already in talks with big retailers across the globe,” Avneet replied when asked about plans for exporting products.

He states that they have missed out on the opportunities this year due to corona and lockdown, but if the situations become favorable, they will start exporting products next year.

Thomson’s Plans To Manufacture Smartphones And Tablets

Furthermore, Marwah said that the company has no plans to manufacture smartphones and any other products for next three years. The brand will be primarily focusing on TVs and appliances during the same timeline.
