What Is RCS?
RCS, or Rich Communication Services, is an advanced messaging protocol that aims to enhance traditional SMS. It enables users to send multimedia messages, create group chats, and enjoy features like read receipts and typing indicators. Apple’s decided to integrate RCS to provide users with an upgraded messaging experience beyond the limitations of SMS.

According to a statement from Apple, they plan to incorporate support for RCS Universal Profile, the standard set by the GSM Association, in the coming year. Apple emphasizes that RCS Universal Profile will enhance interoperability, offering a better user experience compared to SMS or MMS. Importantly, this support will complement iMessage, Apple’s secure messaging platform, ensuring a seamless and secure communication environment for users.
Additionally, there are reports that Apple might make RCS messages on iPhones appear in a new color – green. This is different from the usual blue bubbles we see with iMessage. The color change has been a way to show the safety and exclusivity of iMessage, and it could affect what users prefer.
