PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline Extended To June 30: Here’s How To Link Your Accounts

The deadline to link Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Aadhaar has been extended by three months to June 30 by the Center in order to allow taxpayers additional time. A previous notification from the ministry of finance’s department of revenue demanded that citizens link their Aadhaar cards to their PANs online by March 31 for a price of Rs. 1000.

“According to the provisions of the Income-tax Act of 1961 (the “Act”), every person who had been assigned a PAN as of July 1, 2017, and was qualified to receive an Aadhaar number was required to inform the prescribed authority of his Aadhaar on or before March 31, 2023, in exchange for payment of the prescribed fee. As on April 1, 2023, doing so will result in specific consequences under the Act. The deadline for notifying Aadhaar to the required authority in order to link Aadhaar and PAN has now been extended to June 30, 2023 “The finance ministry released in a statement.

What happens if the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline is missed?

On July 1, 2023, the PAN of taxpayers whose Aadhaar has not been linked as needed will no longer be valid. If the PAN card is not functional:

  1. These PANs will not be eligible for any refunds.
  2. During the period that the PAN is inactive, no interest shall be charged on such reimbursement
  3. TDS and TCS must be withheld and collected at a higher rate in accordance with the Act.

After paying a cost of Rs. 1,000, the PAN can be made operative once more in 30 days.

How To Link Your PAN With Your Aadhaar

Step 1: Open the income tax e-filing portal: https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/

Step 2: Register for it. Your user ID will be your PAN.

Step 3: Enter your User ID, password, and date of birth to log in.

Step 4: You will be prompted to link your PAN and Aadhaar in a pop-up window. If not, click “Link Aadhaar” under “Profile Settings” in the menu bar.

Step 5: Name, date of birth, and gender will already be provided according to PAN information.

Step 6: Verify the PAN information displayed on the screen to the information on your Aadhar. Please keep in mind that if there is a discrepancy, you must have it fixed in both documents.

Step 7: Enter your Aadhaar number and press the “connect now” button if the information is accurate.

Step 8: A pop-up message will notify you that your PAN has been successfully connected to your Aadhaar.
