OPPO is one of the pioneers in the smartphone industry in the global markets including India. The brand is competing in this race with multiple smartphone lineups including the OPPO A series which is best known for bringing in powerful and value for money deals. OPPO is consistent with upgrading this specific lineup with feature rich models and recently added the A78 to the lot.
This new OPPO A78 phone is a powerful option for users with a budget constraint and under Rs. 20,000 it offers some top-of-the-line features including the Snapdragon 600 series chipset, a 90Hz AMOLED screen , and a fast 66W charging tech. The OPPO A78 can be purchased at Rs. 17,499 in the country. But with so many options available in this price bracket, does it successfully makes the cut? We at Giznext got a chance to review the OPPO A78 and here is our take:
OPPO has been bringing in phones flaunting a premium design language even in the mid-range segment. With the new OPPO A78 model, the brand has once again brought in a cool looking handset that is also practical for day-to-day use. The vanilla A78 resembles the A78 5G in terms of the design. Its back panel has a shimmering surface that is complemented with textured pattern.
We have received the Aqua Green shade which reflects rainbow shades when light rays hit the back panel. A large vertical protruding camera strip has been packed on the top left of the back panel. That said, the OPPO A78 is a fairly thin and lightweight phone that measures 0.79 mm in thickness and weighs just 180 grams.
This phone packs the volume rocker along with the power key on the right spine, while the left panel has the SIM card slot. The bottom panel is packed with the USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a speaker grille.
We find the OPPO A78’s design appealing and bet it will grab other’s attention when you flaunt it. Do note that the handset is slightly slippery. Hence, using a case would not only protect it from scratches but also from accidental drops.
The front of the OPPO A78 features a tiny punch-hole cutout which is neatly tucked at the top left corner of the display. The panel used by OPPO for this budget Android phone is AMOLED which measures 6.42-inches in size. The display size isn’t too large but is easy to hold with single hand which makes video playback on-the-go a hassle free process.
With a pixel density of 409 PPI and a refresh rate of 90Hz, the OPPO A78’s screen is able to produce vivid visuals. The colors produced by the panel look crisp and you will definitely enjoy binging on your favorite show or movie. The panel’s brightness levels of 430 nits is decent. The screen isn’t super bright when exposed under harsh sunlight directly. However, this doesn’t mean you struggle outdoors while watching the content.
OPPO A78 Daily Performance Review: Handles All Tasks Swiftly?
The OPPO A78 uses an octa-core mid-range chipset from Qualcomm for power delivery. This OPPO A series phone gets the Snapdragon 680 chipset which supports standard 4G network support and is capable enough to deliver a swift performance even while using extensive apps.
OPPO has launched the A78 with a single 8GB RAM configuration which along with the mid-range Qualcomm chipset delivers a premium user experience overall. The app launch is quick and instant and we didn’t feel lags throughout the usage. We were able to use multiple apps simultaneously which is impressive considering it is a mid-range handset.
For avid gamers, the OPPO A78 wouldn’t come as a disappointment. It delivers a premium gaming experience even with the graphic-intensive gaming titles such and you hardly see any frame drops or stutters on the screen. Besides, the crisp 90Hz screen further enhances the gaming experience and lets you get hooked to the action on the screen.
Also, no major device heat up issues were encountered. The phone might get slightly warm if its plugged to the charger and is in use. Otherwise, there is hardly any heating issue that you will experience while using the phone. The storage option available is 128GB. This is sufficient to store general files such as images and videos. There is also a provision for storage expansion which will come as a savior if you require additional storage space for games and multimedia playback.
OPPO is one of those smartphone OEMs that has shown its expertise with the smartphone cameras and it isn’t any different case with the A78. The OPPO A78 employs dual lens camera module at the rear featuring a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.78 aperture. The primary camera also has AF (autofocus feature) and is further combined with a 2MP sensor for depth effects.
The imaging quality captured by the OPPO A78 is at par with the competitions and fairs out well when compared to some of the popular mid-range phones that feature a triple-lens camera hardware. Thanks to the various camera modes, you can capture photos with different effects too. Speaking of the camera modes, the OPPO A78 comes with Expert, panoramic, portrait, time-lapse, slow-motion, extra HD, multiscreen recording, and more. All these modes have apt functionality to enhance the image quality overall.
With the daylight shots, you will get to see high level of detailings. The large 50MP primary sensor is optimized for the refined shots. The color captured and balanced and you wouldn’t come across overly saturated images. The A78’s camera is good with noise reduction; specifically, when the images are clicked in good lighting conditions.
And for low-light photography, you can toggle on the dark mode from the camera app. With this mode, the camera is able to reduce on the background noise. The shots don’t look grainy if you use this setting at night. The A78 is also good with portrait shots. The dedicated 2MP sensor for depth mapping allows this handset to capture decent portrait shots where the background blur doesn’t feel artificial.
Moving on to the selfie lens, the OPPO A78 is equipped with an 8MP sensor which has an f/2.0 aperture and an 83-degree FoV (Field of View). The front camera is also potent enough to grab crisp self portraits. The level of detailing captured by the selfie snapper on the OPPO A78 is also good and you definitely will love flaunting the self-portraits on your respective social media handles.
The overall video recording experience has also been good with this new-generation OPPO A series phone. The rear camera can record 1080p /720p videos@30fps, while the front camera can also record the same video resolution. The stability is decent with the video recording but a slight more refinement here would have made it more powerful. Overall, the OPPO A78 has an feature rich camera hardware which will definitely please the shutterbugs.
The OPPO A78 is driven by a capacious 5,000 mAh battery pack. This is a decent battery size which is standard for most mid-range and affordable phones. The power backup offered by this new OPPO A series phone is almost an entire day if you use it moderately. With extensive usage, you can expect half a day of backup with a single charge. OPPO ships this unit with a 66W fast charger. It takes less than an hour for the battery to get fully charged which is beneficial for extensive smartphone users.
With the A78, OPPO is again betting high in the mid-range segment; specifically, under Rs. 20,000 price bracket. The latest generation OPPO A series phone promises to be an all rounder with its potent set of features. This phone is a complete multimedia solution and allows consuming high-resolution videos on the go. For the avid gamers too, the OPPO A78 is a potent handset is one of the ideal picks.

Tecno is all set to launch the POVA 5 smartphone series in India, and the company is already teasing the upcoming phone on Amazon’s microsite and Twitter. The highlight of the Tecno POVA 5 Pro is its rear design, featuring vibrant LED lights. Although similar to Nothing Phone (2) in concept, Tecno offers a unique design and pattern for the LED lights.
Tecno released a short 14-second teaser video on Twitter showcasing how the LED lights on the POVA 5 Pro illuminate. The rear design of the phone displays LED lights in at least five different colors, with three strips meeting at a central point. Additionally, there is a tiny LED visible at the center of the rear panel, forming a circular pattern.
Tecno refers to this LED design as the ‘Arc’ interface, but the exact functionalities of the lights remain undisclosed. However, the teaser confirms that the LEDs will light up during incoming calls. We can expect the LEDs to synchronize with the smartphone for additional features like notifications and charging. Similar LED implementations are seen in Nothing Phone (2) and the upcoming Infinix GT 10 series.
The teaser also reveals the placement of the rear cameras, positioned on the top-left corner of the smartphone. In terms of specifications, the Tecno POVA 5 Pro is rumored to feature a massive 7,000mAh battery and support 68W fast charging. It will be the second smartphone in the POVA 5 series, following the launch of POVA 5 in select markets. Tecno plans to launch both phones in India, but the official release date is yet to be announced.
Nothing Phone (2) appears to have served as inspiration for Tecno’s forthcoming smartphone
LED lights will be present on the back of the Tecno POVA 5 Pro
Nothing is interested in this for obvious reasons
The design of Nothing’s smartphones, the Nothing Phone (1) and (2), has garnered significant praise in the consumer technology market. The unique Glyph design has resonated with many users, leading other smartphone manufacturers to draw inspiration from it. In a recent development, Infinix hinted at the launch of their upcoming gaming smartphone, featuring a rear panel that closely resembles the design of Nothing Phone 2. Following suit, another smartphone maker has also unveiled their upcoming smartphone with a design reminiscent of the Nothing Phone (2). Nothing Playfully Responds To Tecno’s Teaser Video
Noticing the teaser video showcasing the LED lighting system of the Pova 5 Pro, Nothing, the company behind the recently launched Phone (2) smartphone, couldn’t resist a lighthearted jab at Tecno. In a witty tweet, Nothing retweeted the teaser with a playful message: “If you want to copy our homework, just ask next time?”
The Interesting LED Lights Of The Tecno Pova 5 Pro

The phone’s unique design showcases three LED strips converging at one point, with an additional tiny LED visible at the center of the rear panel, forming an eye-catching oval design. Though not an exact replica of the Nothing Phone (2), the concept similarity prompted Nothing’s humorous response.
Tecno dubs the LED lights featured on the Pova 5 Pro as the “Arc Interface.” According to tipster Ishan Agarwal on Twitter, these lights will serve as notification indicators, blinking to alert users of incoming calls. Different colors will represent various types of notifications. This innovative design sets it apart from the Nothing Phone.
Infinix GT 10 Pro Resemblance To Nothing Phone (2)
Nothing still needs to worry about one brand, and that is Infinix. Infinix’s GT 10 Pro also shows a rear LED interface akin to Nothing Phone (2), sparking attention and raising concerns. The company calls it the ‘Cyber Mecha Design’ and plans to illuminate LEDs during gaming, notifications, and charging updates. While the resemblance has raised eyebrows, Infinix’s white and black color options mirror the dark grey Phone (2), creating additional chatter in the smartphone market.
