Now, in recent times, we have seen a lot of tussle between India and China and people are boycotting Chinese products. The Chinese smartphone makers have also started promoting their smartphones as Made in India. Samsung is a very popular smartphone manufacturer in the Indian market and a lot of Samsung devices are made in India. Samsung even has its world’s largest smartphone manufacturing facility in India. The company’s manufacturing plant is located at Noida in Uttar Pradesh and it has a production capacity of 120 million smartphone units a year. Samsung’s A-series, M-series and S10 series smartphones are made in India while the new flagship S20 series, Note 20 series, Z Flip and Z Fold devices aren’t made in India.

Apple; Global HQ – USA

Apple iPhones are highly acclaimed all over the world. Apple’s iPhones are designed by the company in its home country California in the USA, however, they are mostly made in India. But now, Apple has started its manufacturing facility in Chennai (India) too. The company’s iPhone XR, iPhone SE 2020 are made in India and the company will soon start manufacturing iPhone 12 series too. Currently, the iPhone 8 Series, iPhone X Series and the iPhone 12 Series are not made in India. These smartphones are made in China.

Xiaomi is one of the most popular smartphone brands in India. Xiaomi’s 99 per cent of smartphones are made in India and the company has currently seven smartphone manufacturing plants in the country, of which four of them are in Andhra Pradesh, two in Tamil Nadu, and one is in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Most of the Xiaomi smartphones are made in India except for some flagship devices like Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 10 5G, etc.

Realme; Global HQ – China

Realme is a new smartphone brand but the company has gained immense popularity in just no time and now enjoys a healthy market share in India. Realme Mobile’s global headquarter is in China but most of its smartphones are made in India at Oppo’s manufacturing facility located at Noida in Uttar Pradesh. Realme India’s CEO, Madhav Seth, even revealed that they source 60 per cent of components from local suppliers.

Oppo and Vivo; Global HQ – China

Oppo and Vivo are Chinese smartphone makers but most of their devices are made in India. Oppo has a big manufacturing facility at Noida in Uttar Pradesh and an R&D centre at Hyderabad, which is Oppo’s largest R&D facility outside of China. Vivo also has its manufacturing plant at Noida in UP. Most of the Oppo and Vivo smartphones are completely made in India except for some high-end flagship devices.

Micromax and Lava; Global HQ – India

Finally, we have some Indian smartphone makers like Micromax and Lava. Lava has its manufacturing facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh while Micromax has three factories in India and they are located at Bhiwadi (Rajasthan), Rudrapur (Uttarakhand) and Telangana. Almost all the Lava smartphones, feature phones and Micromax smartphones are now made in India and they are focusing on R&D too.

OnePlus, Motorola and Lenovo; Global HQ – China

Just like Realme, OnePlus also manufactures some of its smartphones at Oppo’s manufacturing facility located in Noida, U.P. OnePlus now even exports some made in India devices to the western markets such as the US. Motorola was originally a US-based company but it is now acquired by the Chinese tech giant, Lenovo. Motorola’s smartphones are assembled in India at the Sriperumbudur facility near Chennai.

Infinix, iTel and Tecno; Global HQ – China

Infinix, iTel and Tecno are well-known names in the Indian market. However, all three of them are owned by a China-based company called Transsion Holdings. The manufacturing of almost all the Infinix, Itel and Tecno smartphones are done in India. The manufacturing process of these smartphones are handled by the Transsion Group and they also rely on contract manufacturing partners PCT, MCM and HiPad.
