Applied For A New Passport? Here’s How To Check Your Passport Application Status

If you want to travel abroad, having a passport is a must. It is also considered as a legal document to verify citizenship on foreign soil. Nowadays, making a passport application is simple with online services available. However, if you are currently waiting for a new passport, you should check the status of your application. It will help you estimate how long it will take to complete the procedure. There are multiple ways available to check the status of your passport.

You can check the status of your application online in a few simple steps. You will need the following information:

  • Date of birth
  • 15-digit Passport file number

How To Check Passport Status Online?

Step 1: Visit the official website of Passport Seva Portal and choose the tab ‘Track Your Application Status’.

Step 2: Select the Passport type among the options listed from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Now, enter your date of birth and 15-digit file number.

Step 4: Tap on ‘Track Status’ and your application’s current status will be displayed onscreen.

The mPassport Seva app can also be used on your iOS and Android device to track the status of your passport application. After registering on the app, you can access real-time updates on your application status.

How to Track Passport Application Status Offline?

You can check the status of your passport application offline using the following methods:

National Call Centre: Call the National Call Centre toll-free line at 18002581800 to talk with a Citizen Service Executive from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The IVRS (Automated Interactive Voice Response) service which is available 24 hours a day can also be used outside of business hours.

Through Helpdesk: You can also get information on your passport application status by visiting Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or contacting them via email.

Via SMS: For status updates on your passport application, send the SMS ‘STATUS FILE NUMBER’ to 9704100100 from your registered mobile number (the one mentioned on your passport application form).

Note: The SMS service is a paid option that must be selected when submitting your application form.
